The purpose of the PTN Blog is for agents to share:
Rules:
Tips:

At retail, they call it the final foot before closing the sale. The consumer is alone on a shopping aisle. Just 12 inches away from the product on the shelf, and anything will help close the sale.
In travel, agents have a far greater advantage - you can close the sale with even a minor incentive. It can be an extra tour. A cabin or room upgrade. Wine with dinner on a tour. Even a special car service to the airport to start the trip.
In this environment, a consumer really wants the vacation this year. So agents really have to be entrepreneurs in closing the sale.

AIRLINE BAGGAGE FEES-Breakdown:

Hello PTN Partners!
When booking a clients airfare or package, you may find similar pricing amongst 2 or 3 airlines with similar times. Before choosing one, make sure to take into consideration the “BAGGAGE FEES”. This can make a huge difference in the total pricing!
I found this and hope this helps. As always, this may not be up-to-date. Use this as a quick reference guide and then go to the airlines website directly to check the exact “Baggage Fees”.
Some airlines allow for one baggage to be checked in, but then charge for the 2nd baggage. (Weight must be under 50 lbs).

CLIA’s cruise findings demonstrate growing cruise industry driven by satisfied customers, with travel agents playing essential role.
Driven by satisfied customers eager to travel more, despite the uncertain economy, the cruise industry is well-positioned for continued growth and success. This is one of the conclusions to be drawn from the Cruise Lines International Association’s (CLIA) 2008 Cruise Market Profile Study released today.
This year’s findings reinforce previous studies in painting a picture of a healthy, in-demand cruise industry fueled by vacationers with broader travel interests than non-cruisers and whose satisfaction with cruising is based on perceived and realized value. In 2007, 9.57 million Americans took a cruise vacation representing 76 percent of the total 12.56 million guests carried on CLIA member cruise lines. Based on this year’s study, 33.7 million Americans stated intent to cruise within the next three years.

What does knowing that only 6% of survey respondents have traveled to an all-inclusive resort mean for you and your business? That’s a huge untapped market for you.
Ypartnership’s 2008 National Leisure Travel Monitor, a 213-page report full of facts and figures regarding the current leisure travel market, may be somewhat daunting with its statistics practically spilling off the page. And while the numbers are fascinating, your first reaction, as a travel agent, may be, What’s all this got to do with me?
The National Leisure Travel Monitor results are significant and not just because everyone in the travel industry should be aware of leisure travelers’ behavior and attitudes, statistically speaking, but also because, armed with such knowledge, travel agents can better create a business plan and market appropriately to grow their business.

1. Value
If you want to sell people with your speech you have to show them your product and business has value. You want them to know clearly how the product will better them and anyone else that uses it. It is vital you research the product in-depth prior to recruiting so you know everything there is to know about the product. It will make it much easier to sell.
2. Training
There are far too many programs that simply try to sign people up only to leave them as soon as you join. Because of this many people have a bad impression of MLM programs. You want to assure every person you talk to that you will be there for them. Whether they need advice or training material, they need to know you are there for them.

Especially cruise lines are raising these fees for the 3rd time since November. This will affect your bookings, for example (cruises carnival is increasing their fees to $9.00 per day per passenger based on first and second passengers in a cabin and to $4.00 a day per person 3rd and 4th in a cabin — so you must make sure that names and required deposits are made by june 26th, 2008 or the current fuel service charge will not be protected.
